Here is an excellent tutorial, created by "DNethery", for importing scanned bitmap images into TBS 4.0 with added alpha channel transparency so that "traditional" pencil tests can be created . (using the "Import & Vectorize WITH TEXTURE" function in TB 4.0) . This tutorial not only shows how to import pencil drawings to produce a pencil test but it also shows how to use PhotoShop to add a transparent alpha channel to your scanned images before you import them.
