Timeline Window: There are two ways to communicate about and organize your
animation work in Toon Boom Studio, they are the
Exposure Sheet and the Timeline. These window panels are fully integrated and actually combine to form a single
animation managment mechanism. The
Exposure sheet, x-sheet, is for managing and organizing your drawings or cells. The Timeline is for communicating instructions to your
animation assistant the TBS rendering engine.
The TBS rendering engine is that part of the application that publishes your
animation project. It is often not clearly understood. It is more than just something that generates output movies. The rendering engine is a significant part of your animation production team. It's not a person, but it is your loyal assistant. It is there for you to control and instruct and it follows every one of your instructions, even when you give it incorrect instructions inadvertently. The rendering engine is your animation camera operator, and it is also your special effects technician and your in betweening assistant. It gets its instructions through
key framed attributes, segments both
constant and
non-constant,
function curves and
peg hierarchies. The central point around which you create and communicate these instructions is the Timeline Window.
