For some reason when I add a Drop Shadow effect I get an exact copy of the drawing I am trying to add the shadow to. Tried using the change color and opacity but nothing seems to work. I used the effect many times before with no problem. Wondered if anyone else has the same problem or experienced it and solved the issue.

Hello, I'm a real noob. so don't laugh so hard you accidently delete your account. Can the attributes of PEG elements/pegs be changed in real time programmically(sp?)? Instead of being preset in an animation, can they be manipulated as in a XNA game/PC game? Can TBS be used in Game character development? Thanks!

I just finished a very short animation for the Thanksgiving holiday and stuck it up on Vimeo. Here's a sneak preview. Animation was done with Toon Boom & editing done in iMovie 11. The music is a clip from the Public Domain tune by a Bolivian Marching Band.

Hi, I find it difficult to draw in TBS, I prefer to draw in Photoshop, Illustrator or Flash. I found out when I export my drawings to photoshop and save it as a photoshop file (psd) that I can open it in TBS and seems to work fine. But when I cutted and named everything and try to order the drawing elements, for example, I dragg the head to the torso, the suddenly the head becomes ten times smaller!! Also when I open it in the drawing mode it shows ten times bigger! I suppose this is not normal. Do I do something wrong or is it just not so simple to import from Photoshop? What what other program could I use for drawing otherwise?
Thank you in advance!

Hi folks,
I'm a self-taught cartoon animator looking to speed up my workflow. I don't own the TB software but it seems to be the best 2D stuff out there. Right now I'm designing characters in Photoshop, importing them as body part stacks int After Effects for reattaching and animation, then exporting all the camera angles to Final Cut for editing and sound design. Here's a sample - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEzxxXS_jOo. So my questions are about how TB would complement or even replace parts of my current workflow. Can I export and import files in and out of Toon Boom from and to my other programs? Can I design extensive mouth-shape libraries for auto lip-sync? Or am I limited to the 7 basic mouth shapes? What are the differences between TB Studio and TB Animate? Lots more questions, but that should get us started. Thanks, in advance, for all your help and advice. Tim

I'm considering switching to Toon Boom but need a crucial bit of info about one thing. Flash's ability to create simple "stop();" and "Play():" buttons for the viewer is important to my work. Are these possible in ToonBoom... or is play continuous, instead?
Thanks very much! Jean

Hey,
I'm in the process of making a short animation in Toon Boom Animate. I've already created a character rig and environment with multiple planes of depth, but right now i am trying to create a basic animatic so i can time the scene properly. I''ve deselected the final environment and character rig, created a crude proxy of my character, imported two 30 second snippets of my dialogue into my scene, and have placed the first one 180 frames into my timeline. The problem is, when i render and export my scene, the dialogue begins to play immediately, instead of waiting the 180 frames it's supposed to. There must be a crucial step i am missing.

I'm using TBS v5 and I'm going insane with trying to arrange my drawings! I click the one I want to move forward or backward and the wrong one moves. I can usually right click and the menu option comes up, but after I move it twice it no longer pops up. Then it automatically picks a different drawing and moves it. I know this sounds like such a menial problem, but it really cuts into my productivity. It's literally taking one step ahead and 2 steps behind!
Anyone else having the same problem? Anyone have any ideas what I can do to solve my problem?

Hi, JK-
I finished a short animation using Toon Boom Studio. Now that I view my efforst I'd like to cut to a closeup for a few seconds within the animation, which is a single scene. I tried reading your tutorials (the fish & shark) to figure out how to use a pegged camera to do a quick zoom and come back out again. I don't even want a zoom, really, I just want to cut to a closeup of my character for a few seconds to show his expression and then cut back to my original framing of the scene. I learned how to use the motion pegs back, years ago, when I did my first Toon Boom animation, Hatman Seranade, but I found the whole thing overwhelmingly confusing back then and I am having that sinking feeling again. I'd forgotten that the Toon Boom system is not very intuitive. I'm sure it all seems clear to you, since you've mastered the software, but to someone like me, who lacks a tech brain, the program makes me feel dumb as a post. So, can you point me to the most simple, straight-ahead section within your tutorials that will allow me to cut to a closeup of my character and then return to my original view? Or is this one of those things, like learning jazz guitar, where one must back up and learn the entire system from teh beginning? I messed around with Apple's Motion some years ago and it was SO intuitive. I loved how I could read bits and pieces about how the program worked and then, without much pain and suffering, do all kinds of things to my movies. I do wish TBS was as intuitive. Yeah, I know, wishing is a poor substitute for digging in and studying. Thanks, E

Well, JK, I'm finally caught up on my plethora of kid's book assignments. With any luck at all, I'll find time to get back to creating some animation projects, but still have enough work flowing in to keep the cats swaddled in warm sweaters this winter. I plan to get back to Toon Boom and I'm sure I'll be over here picking your well-stocked brain as I stumble along.
Hope all is well with you and yours. -Wacky

In Toon Boom Studio I some times find that the pivot points have moved location - not sure why, and whne I go to reset the pivot point it becomes an odd game of chase - I cannot go directly to the place where I want to place the pivot point but i have to chase the element around a bit until it lines up - anyone had this happen and can you explain how to get it to stop!!

I wouldn't say this is "very technical". I was hoping to find the actual file format specification instead of an overview.

I'm trying to export a square bin that I made that has eyes, nose and a mouth. I did the parent pegs and made sure everything was right. In fact, I can watch it while I'm in toon boom....but when I export it out, only the square bin comes out with no mouth eyes or nose. Can anyone figure out what I'm doing wrong? THANKS!

Here's a strange issue that keeps coming up for me and the TBS book doesn't seem to answer it; I've got a fully rigged arm (upper, fore, and hand) attached to a character's shoulder. That shoulder needs to be above the body element, but below the mouth and head elements as they are large and obscure part of that shoulder. But now if I need the hand of that arm to touch the front of the face, it won't do it because it's below the head/mouth layer. This must come up often and I'm sure there's an obvious fix, but I'm at a loss.
